13.46

Stats: - 13.46 miles / 2:43:41 / 12:09 avg pace on a 10/1 interval.

This was the toughest run yet.  It was just me and Jenny.  It's hard to keep up with her pace and i feel bad slowing her down.  I really struggled the last 3 miles and started feeling like I was going to throw up and had stomach cramps so I walked the last almost 2miles.  We went over 13 miles because of where we parked the car.  I am feeling  a lot better now.

I had trouble with my knees for more than half the run and my quads were burning.  It was just HARD!!  And discouraging.  How in the world am I going to make it through a marathon?  When I have this hard of a time with a half marathon distance?

The route was great though -we did the Old Mill to Murray route but instead of going to Mimi's we just kept going down Vine St to State then over to 4800 S and west to the Jordan Parkway trail and then followed that south to Winchester where we had parked my car.

Does anyone know how many miles you can run on the parkway?  I know there are interruptions in the trail at some points but I don't know where.

Fabulous! I thought I would die on my first half, it was horrible, it made me so nervous to run a full one, but it turned out that the marathon wasn't as bad as my first half......now a half is a walk in the park, and it will be for you too, you are just breaking yourself in. It is all good Lisa and it is normal and you will be just fine on marathon day

Thanks for the encouraging comments. I hope I can make it.

How's Paul?

I don't think you have to feel bad about slowing anyone down. I have a partner that feels the same way sometimes. I think it is important to run with people who are slower than you sometimes and people who are faster than you sometimes. It works both ways! Easy runs are meant to be just that...EASY! So maybe your hard runs can be on her easy days. That's how Tom and I do a lot of our runs. Good luck, you are doing great!

Lisa, the parkway is a great place for a long run, water stops, bathrooms, flat, etc. We live 30 seconds off the parkway and run it almost daily. It seems your next long run will be in the 14 to 16 mile range. If you start at 7800 south, Gardner Village, you can run north to 3900 So and back to Gardner for 14 miles. If you want and extra two miles, keep going north to 3300 south and then back to Garner. Good luck at TOU, we did it last year.

Lisa, I forget to mention, you can run the route I mentioned with crossing only one small street. There are under passes and over passes at every other street with no interuptions.

Brent, thanks for the comments and advice about the parkway. Since we weren't familiar with it we missed a couple of underpasses and had to back track sometimes. I think we will do that route for our next long run. I really enjoyed running there and would love to live right next to it.
